Embracing your shadow

Writer's picture: Deborah WolfDeborah Wolf

We’ve just gone through the autumn equinox, the equinox signifies a turning point in your life where your old habits that no longer serve you are being shed, making way for a new Self to emerge.

It is a time to prepare for your new self to arrive. To sort out unresolved issues and put things in order and set new goals that revolve around who you want to be and should be.

If you are thinking of becoming something you’ve always wanted to become or something that keeps calling you, whether it’s a writer, a councillor, a musician, jewellery designer or healer- then this is the perfect time to start exploring that. Exploring our shadow self is an important step in the process of becoming who you should be. It means uncovering the latent issues and emotions that are unresolved and left in the dark that hold you back from evolving and succeeding in life.

By embracing and accepting this shadow self we are shedding light on the dark parts of ourselves, making us more complete and whole. This allows the shadow side of ourselves to heal and become a part of us in a way that we can control instead of allowing it to control us, in essence when we accept our shadow self we are truly loving ourselves.

The shadow side of ourselves is clouded by fear, judgements, weaknesses, impulses, perversions, humiliations and chaos. It is the voice inside our heads that tell us we are not worthy, loveable, inadequate or good enough; it is the thing that holds you back from living and enjoying your life.

As you go through a self-exploration of your shadow side you uncover its true nature and follow the hints or breadcrumbs it leaves behind to find out what it’s really hiding- a way to transform.

Our shadow self is a key to unlocking our truest potential to really transform into who we need to become, when we focus on the dark parts and embrace them instead of denying them- we are then in control and can make the decision from an unclouded stand point to change our lives.

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.” John Lennon

Once we face these fears, we then transform and step into our truest potential.Deb
